She and my son have been inactive for the past three yrs . She and I have had pretty open discussions about the JWs . She never was baptised and she is well aware of the hypocrisy of many with in the religion .
Many in our old hall gave her a hassle when she married my son, because he was baptised and she was not .People actually refused to attend her bridal shower because of this . Then they chose to get married in Las Vegas which also caused many a gossip frenzy ! They moved across the country after the wedding day so they didn't really care what people in our hall thought !
She studied a while in California but still never got baptised . When they moved again they just never got back into meeting attendance . Her best friend and SIL have told her if she doesn't start attending meetings then they won't associate with her anymore (emotional blackmail anyone ?) That kind of threat just made her more determined to be independent . She has made very good friends with workmates and she now sees the difference between them and the JWs .
I am excited for her to go to school , i think she will love the experience . She hopes to take pre-req classes in community college for the first two yrs , and then transfer to University .

My daughter in law just called to tell me she just finished signing up for COLLEGE !!!! She will start in January .
She was raised as a witness . Her Father died when she was two (he was not a JW ) Her Mom decided at that time to take all her children out of school and home school them instead ,because the end was so close and she didn't want the world corrupting them . So my DIL being only two never had a chance at a real education . There were four children ,and the oldest had serious learning disablities along with health issues . Her oldest sister ended up taking up most of their mom's attention so none of the others were really schooled at all .
My DIL ended up teaching herself how to read by listening to an ABC tape . When she reached High School age she enrolled in a mail in course . Her dream has been to go to a real school . She will have to quit her full time job in order to devote to school fulltime ....which is scary . Her job had the better health plan . But she can't pass up the chance for school .
I am so proud and happy for her .

If you really want ideas for me here are some suggestions : Novelty Christmas lights would be fun ! Old World glass ornaments or Shiny Brite retro ornaments are cool .
Surprise me that is the best .
(P.S. I am a huge nerd rock collector ...if you live in Australia I would love a natural opal rock from there ! Or any other local variety rock that is pretty )

I feel like a coward weakling. Not like a man. It doesn't feel good.
by easyreader1970 ini'm trying to figure out a way to deal with these feelings of cowardice, worthlessness, unmanliness, etc.. i'm not afraid of anyone or even what would happen to me (nothing), but i do not want to witness the utter destruction of my family.
so i shut up and go along.
i am often reminded of the scene in ben hur when charleton heston's bravery is threatened with the loss of his family.

It is YOUR life and you have to live it as you see fit ......To hell with anyone that gives you crap for your decisions !
You have the excellant oppurtunity to be clearly engaged with the education of your children . Be the man they need in their life by showing them how to have critical thinking skills , to be involved in life outside of just the organization ,AND most importantly to live a life free of feeling guilty for every stupid thing the Watchtower shoves down their throats . Be the counter weight in their lives .
You will find their childhood years fly by quickly and if you instill some powerful free thinking into them now , when they are older making their own choices maybe just maybe all will turn out well in the end . But it will not happen magically .....you need to actively be educating the children to deal with this cult .
In the future when they are grown maybe you will be able to fade peacefully for now Mister you are not a wuss you are an undercover agent , a special ops soldier protecting your kids future from a known enemy force .......now get out there and DO IT, but be careful and watch your back
Thank you my speech for the day is now finished you may applause now .....

What happens when you contact wbts HQ
by Archimendes inhi all,.
what sort of responses do people actually get when you write to brooklyn hq to query subjects like their quote mining and other dubious uses of sources.
i am currently having a bit of a 'discussion' on a popular nz mb with 3 or 4 current jw who are having a hard time accepting that the quotes from their latest pamphlets on evolution, among others are taken out of context, its got to the point where the only answer they are willing to give is to take it up with borg central.. if i actually physically mailed them a letter with a large portion of attached documents, would i get an actual response, photocopies of articles, or filed under wicked slave?.

Oh No!!! A Witness saw me buying a Christmas tree
by will_the_apostate indoing the black friday shopping with the family and we were picking up one of those nice prelit fake trees and standing right next to me was a local brother who i had grown up with staring at me.
i just smiled my biggest apostate smile and walked away... i wonder if the elders will call on me soon..

Do you feel guilty accepting gifts (on both birthdays, holidays and non holidays?)
by Joliette inme and my brother was talking about 'the society' 'the watchtower' in general, and my brother said that he sometimes felt guilty acceping gifts from his 'worldly' friends, associates, etc.
(he's not baptized, neither am i).
i always felt guilty eating birthday cake, standing up for the flag.

NOT ANY MORE ! You just need more practice Start SENDING us gifts and after a while it will feel really normal when someone gives you one . I'll pm my address right away .
Seriously I did feel that way only when I was an active JW . Since then after giving to others for a couple of yrs . it is now getting easier to accept gifts . Last yr I think was my first time really being excited to open a wrapped Christmas gift for myself.
